The highly-awaited Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season introduces a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't make the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 moves, and how much of what they're anticipating unfolds now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible disclosures, some fascinating origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on October 29.
